In 1955, the French director and ethnograph Jean Rouch shot in a single day the film Les maitres fous.
The film shows the ritual practices of a religious sect worshipping the cult of Hauka whose followers are workers from the regions of the Niger. After arriving in Accra they meet for their big annual ceremony. The peculiarity of the cult of Hauka is that its pantheon contains the spirits of the representatives of the Western colonial power that, in the ritual moments enter the body of the followers who fall into a transe.
Point de rassemblement is a production which have been thought of as "inverted etnography" and have been developed, sometimes obtusely, in this direction. A traveller's point of view invites us to go again through established routines, in a never ending spiral of cultural misunderstanding.
