Alexandre, a young and idle man, lives in Paris with Marie, with whom he has an open relationship. He doesn't have any job, and he is quite proud of being a layabout. One day, while Marie is in London, he invites Veronika, a girl he was dating, to move to his place. When Marie comes back home, she seems indifferent to Alexandre's affair and the three start an unconventional and complicated love triangle. Eustache's movie can be considered a sort of "parable of the years following the 68', when politics is no longer an aspiration and sex, first a revolutionary force, turns into power plays of the average middle-class couple" (Paolo Mereghetti).
