The famous orchestra conductor Sir Alfred De Carter returns to New York after a long journey.
His brother-in-law delivers him a report showing that his wife Daphne has betrayed him with his young secretary.
During one of his concerts, Alfred begins planning three different ways of solving the problem - uxoricide, forgiveness, duel - setting each to a different classical piece.
