Two collection agents of the tobacco Monopoly are killed during a robbery. The main suspected is Enokizu, a delivery courier on behalf of the Monopoly. Police starts an inquiry about him and finds out that Enokizu is married and has two daughters, but his family never sees him. The man, feeling oppressed by all these controls, commits a series of crimes and for seventy-eight days cannot be found.
