Johan is thirty-five years old. He is a baker and live in a small village where everybody knows everything about everybody. Johan can't dance, but play domino and can make an egg stand. His friend Paul suggests him to publish a notice on the newspaper to find a pen friend. A foreign woman answers him, starting an exchange of letters in which Johan doesn't reveal his true identity. One day, the woman arrives in his village to marry him. During the meeting, the misunderstandings and embarrassments are many, but the woman decides eventually to stay.
